About Martin

Martin Cox (born UK, active US), drawn on subjects where culture and nature rub together, he is a photographer interested in the visual impression time makes upon a place. Martin’s photographs suggest timescale through subtle observations. Martin has exhibited in galleries and museums in Los Angeles, UK and Iceland. His subjects is often landscape and highlights places that are changing or recently vanished; former desert resort towns, fading ocean liners at the end of their trading lives or in layup, maritime communities, landscapes under snow, and a 14th century manor house steeped in entropy. The port of Southampton, England provided early inspiration following studies at two English art schools, now based in Los Angeles — the deserts of Southern California, and Iceland’s interior exerts a pull on his work. Martin also works collaboratively with other artists on a conceptual project named Museum of Ennui. He is currently co-creating an art residency in Iceland.
