About Martin

Martin Cox (born UK, active US), is drawn to subjects where culture and nature rub together. A recurring fascination is the visual impression time has made upon a place and how transition is being revealed. His photographs suggest the passage of time and presence of history with projects beginning as visual investigations then drawing upon research. Cox has photographed a multitude of disappeared landscapes: desolate valleys evacuated in the wake of the collapsed Welsh mining industry, former resort towns at a shrinking California lake, ocean liners fading to ruin, desert areas impacted by the San Andreas fault, and a 13th century manor house steeped with entropy. The port of Southampton, England provided early inspiration and following studies at Winchester School of Art, he took his degree at the Exeter School of Art and Design. Cox lives in Los Angeles.
