Archive for November, 2010
In November I got to photography one of my favourite performance artists, Elia Arce, what a pleasure to spend a day with Elia, talking, taking pictures and looking at performance photos stretching back into the 90s.
In Their Boots executive Director Richard Perez (left) moderated post screening discussion of five former Army veterans turned film-makers talking about the process.
November: I had the pleasure of working, once again, with sculptor Cynthia Minet. The job was to shoot installation shots of her current show of animals presented in windows on the street in Pasadena, CA.
Her “Unsustainable Creatures” are fashioned from numerous recycled materials, often familiar as former juice bottle, racks, dish bowls etc. These elements are combined with great skill to bring about a very life like and well drawn familiar creatures – in this case a camel down on one knee.
The job was to shoot both day and night installation shots, as part of Cynthia’s skill is to illuminate her creatures from the inside further emphasizing their strange and other-worldly inner workings.
The camel is the latest in a series which includes a pig, a bull, an emu, a horse and a vulture, and was exhibited in one of several windows that make up the 24 hour gallery.
